    Sadly Underwhelming

Was looking forward to this, but it was pretty disappointing. Underwhelming, uninspired and confusing story.
No real plot line or point to this book. The author seems to really jump around and contradict herself a lot in the story (eg saying that there is no taste makers now and people have freedom to make their own fashion choices etc, but then shortly after seems to be berating and judging). If the attempt is humour it misses the mark and comes off as condescending and judgemental at a lot of points which is sad.
Some funny moments or interesting ideas, but on a whole it’s told in a disjointed way that’s hard to connect to. By half way it was a real struggle. Feels like something I might have read 10 years ago.

I really tried to love this

I am a distant admirer of Aussie fashion editors, Kirstie included. I wish I’d bought the book – the appalling, stilted, poorly-enunciated narration completely butchered this for me. Such a shame. Sounds like it was recorded in one take by an amateur who manages makes the prose sound pretentious instead of charming. I suspect if you read the book this would be a great book. PS it’s pronounced BASIC NOT BASSEEEKAY.
